Excess saliva after getting dentures

Dear Doctor!

My father who is already 60 years old, got upper dentures 5 months ago. Until now, he is still
uncomfortable with them. He cannot eat well and he is still producing a lot of saliva. What can he do? Is this still a part of the adjustment period?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello rustytaste!

Was the prosthesis lined correctly? If the answer is yes, and the prosthesis sits comfortably in the jaw, it could be that your father is having trouble getting used to the total prosthesis.

Have a look at the video “Dental Prosthesis” for more information concerning dental prosthetics. Eventually you could remedy the situation using dental implants.

All the best!
Liebe Grüße JB
