I am puzzled by my "gum disease"

I have been seeing my dentist for a few years. They've been saying I have 4-6 mm deep pockets in my molars. They are not going away despite regular cleaning, and recommended me the surgical treatment. I am afraid of the procedure. Also, I do not have any symptoms, no bleeding, no pain, no swelling... I brush and floss my teeth carefully everyday. But my dentist even refuses to clean my teeth now since I do not agree with the surgery yet, saying it is no help just cleaning. My teeth is over due for a cleaning now. What should I do?

Perhaps someone will clean your teeth regularly if you sign a release holding the dentist harmless if you do not have surgery.
