Swollen lymph node and infection after RCT

Hello,

Last year, I had a severe toothache (tooth #28). The dentist said the tooth was abscessed and needed a root canal. He put me on antibiotics. When I finished them, the swelling and pain went away so I didn’t go to my root canal appointment. I thought everything was already fine until a month ago, my face on the right side became extremely swollen. The dentist put me on antibiotics for ten days and I had the root canal done after. He filled the tooth after the RCT.

A week after the root canal, the lymph node at the back of my neck got swollen. I also had ear infection. I was given another set of antibiotics. For the past days, I felt that the swelling in my lymph nodes was getting worse and I started feeling worse and very much drained. Any ideas why I am feeling this way? What tests should be done to figure this out? Help me please!

Because you did not follow directions the first time, you now have an infection that is more antibiotic resistant. What I hope you learn from this is in general, antibioics alone do not cure dental problems, they just mask the symptoms for a while.

Twice in my career patients have ended up in the hospital with IV antibiotics. Hope this does not happen to you. There are more and more bacteria resistant to all known antibiotics.
