Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
(29500 Views)
OMS is a specialty in surgery that stands for oral and maxillofacial surgery. The OMS was developed in the wartime from general surgery. During that time, doctors had to deal with gunshot wounds and other war injuries. Nowadays OMS includes jaw surgery, accident surgery, tumor surgery, craniofacial surgery (inherent skull deformities), orthognathic surgery (jaw, -face correction of deformities) and aesthetic surgery. Maxillofacial surgeons are usually qualified in dentistry and have then undergone additional surgical training. As in every medical subject not all aspects of OMS are covered in hospitals. Before undergoing surgery, we advise you to research the specialties and jaw surgical departments of your desired hospital!

some errors in narration where the narrator slips in "orthodontist" where "oral and maxillofacial surgeon" should be named - specifically with orthognathic - or jaw corrective surgery.
