Wedge-Shaped Defect
(29312 Views)
Wedge-shaped defects are understood as flaws in the hard dental material at the border between the dental enamel and the root cement. Dental enamel is the hardest substance in the human body. In the enamel-cement border area, the geometry of the enamel structure dissolves, creating weak spots exactly the point where the dental enamel transitions into the root cement. These tooth defects can lead to a root canal therapy if not treated properly. The defects may be caused by the wrong handling of the toothbrush and dental floss, but also by a false position of the tooth. If dental floss is laid around the tooth and moved back and forth, then the dental floss can cut into the tooth after a while. That's why it's important to learn the correct flossing method. Generally sensitive tooth necks and toothache are a common result of an incorrect oral hygiene technique. The treatment of wedge-shaped defects consists of the elimination of the medical cause and the sealing of the tooth defect with special cement. Watch the video to learn more about this enamel defect!
