Wisdom Tooth Extraction
(22936 Views)
Wisdom Tooth Extraction (Wisdom teeth removal) refers to the surgical removal of the third molars, also called the number 8 teeth, or wisdom teeth. In medical terminology, wisdom teeth removal is called R.T.R., or “retained teeth removal.” Wisdom teeth have to be removed when they
  • cause inflammation
  • form a cyst
  • create weakness in the jaw
  • are profoundly destroyed by caries
  • endanger or inhibit prosthetic care
Wisdom teeth usually emerge from between the age of 17 and 24 and are the last large grinding teeth at the back of your mouth. Wisdom teeth can be extracted under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Note that some people never grow wisdom teeth but you could grow up to four, one in each back corner of your mouth. Many people fear the wisdom teeth removal procedure. Common side effects after operation include swelling, reduce mouth opening and lite bleeding.
We´d like to alleviate your fear of this surgery, just watch this video to learn more about wisdom tooth extraction. Here you can see LIVE OPERATION how the wisdom tooth is removed.

wisdom teeth removal is painful

Reading the comments already posted, I must emphasize the importance of having an expertly trained, dual-degree oral surgeon, and not a dentist, perform any surgery, like the removal of wisdom teeth. Sedation is also a very nice adjunct for patients to actually have a pleasant and safe surgical experience. Placing a removable dressing or non-resorbable sutures is uncommon and unnecessary with dissolvable, superior products available. 99% of wisdom tooth removal procedures do not require any follow-up, and the last cases that were performed in a hospital that I heard of happened decades ago.

I opted to be knocked out completely for my wisdom teeth extraction. Had it done in the hospital, woke up and the ordeal was done :)
